Roan Mountain on the Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is not always a long green tunnel. In the dead of winter she can be a brutal, snow packed hike.

The Roan Highlands, on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, experience some of the fiercest, snowiest winter storms in the Southern Appalachians. Follow two hikers as they experience one extreme, yet peaceful, environment that Appalachia offers.

Going to need to grab a big jacket for this one, your basic hiking t-shirt won’t do.
